Culture is cultivated through a community-as-campus model, in which daily life, presentation, recreation, and dining all form character — not a curriculum bolted on top of ordinary life, but ordinary life arranged to be formative.

The governing insight is that structure, not information or exhortation, is the constitutional variable. You do not lecture a community into wisdom and character; you build the environment so that they become the path of least resistance.

II · Where character is formed

Ordinary life, arranged to form

Because formation is environmental, it lives in the same domains that make up belonging and well-being: the shared table of the food civilization, the restorative time of recreation, the dignity of presentation, and the protected space of the dwelling. Each is designed so that participating in it well is the natural thing to do. Character is a by-product of a well-built common life rather than the target of a separate program.
